The Dead Heavys have been a fixture on the Irish music scene for just over 12 months. In that brief time they have managed to make a serious impression for themselves. Formed in late 2011 when two newly jobless friends began filling their time by writing & recording in a home studio. As the songs took shape so did the line-up with old band mates & chance acquaintances coming together to complete the five piece Keith O’Neill, Guitar/Vocals, Peter Savage, Drums, Colin Brenan, Guitar/BV, Pete Vogelaar, Bass & Ed O’Neill Keys/Brass/BV.
Some early demos found their way to Veteran UK Producer Jagz Kooner (Primal Scream/Sabres Of Paradise) who was so impressed that he had the band in the studio within weeks. Everybody In The Nite/Lazarus the band’s debut double A side got an immediate response with daytime play on national & regional stations including a live performance of Lazarus on Today FM’s The KC Show. After a debut Dublin headliner playing to a packed Village the band spent the summer busy on the festival circuit. Highlights included an appearance at Croatia’s INmusic festival and a storming Saturday night set at Electric Picnic. In the UK the band has been championed by The Enemy front man Tom Clarke, Reverend & The Makers John McClure & XFM’s Eddy Temple Morris, while guardian & louder than war music writer John Robb called them “A band that could grab a whole stadium full of fans as well as the charts.
January 31st sees the band release their new single The New Age Of Innocence. The song again produced by Kooner mixes Phil Spector’s wall of of sound with a disco inspired groove which perfectly underpins the lyrics call to forget all and start anew. The band will be backing up the release with a small tour of Ireland Kicking off with a headline show in Dublin’s twisted pepper on February 1s.t
With festival & UK dates being finalised along with another two single releases planned 2014 is shaping up to be the bands biggest year yet.
With a slew of festivals under their belt including. Indiependence, Sea Sessions & Croatia's INmusic Festival. Along with a storming Body & soul Stage Set at Electric Picnic
